Toffee Tunic and Hennina Pants
Yes, it's another summer outfit for Emily. Sorry, I don't want this blog to be all about "show and tell," but do realize that this is my way of record keeping by documenting my sewing projects. And lately I've been sewing for Emily who just does not stop growing. So...onward to the latest outfit for Em....
Once again, I used Ottobre patterns; both the top and shorts are from the 03/2009 issue. In brief:
Design #3, "Toffee" Tunic
Size 92, graded up to a size 98
Fabric: dotted Swiss from Hancocks, bought on the clearance shelf
Changes made: Ric-rac was added to the neckline and pocket bindings. Both the sleeves and pockets are fully lined which created an easy hem of the sleeves and nicely curved pocket edges.
Next time: Add more length to the neckline binding to make it a bit looser.
Design #6, "Hennina" Pants
Size 92 Fabric: red twill, left over from the shorts pictured in my previous post
Changes made: The pattern called for a tab and ruffle embellishment above the leg vent. I did not like the ruffle frill. Instead I sewed a skinny tube cut on the bias, tied it in a knot, and sewed it above the leg vent. I'm happy with the results.
On another note, Trudy, from Sewing with Trudy, recently gave us a "Blogger Buddy Award." Trudy and her young daughter both sew, and I've enjoyed reading their blogs. Thank you, Trudy, for this award and your sweet comments.
What a cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteAnd why have a blog if you're not going to "show and tell"? :) I love seeing your finished projects! I need to start using my Ottobre patterns, and it gives me inspiration to do so!
super cute! can't wait for baby girl to arrive so I can sew for her!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad about the "show and tell" I love looking at things you have sewed and wish someday I could sew half as well! :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute outfit! I really need to look into that sewing magazine...I've not seen any pictures of it but hear that it's awesome but some what intimidating (oh and costly). :)
Ruth, I found your blog via patternreview (I think) and I am SO grateful for this post! I have this same fabric and have been scratching my head over what to do with it, but now I know! Adorable outfit, as always :)
ReplyDeleteI come here for "show and tell" - please don't stop now!
ReplyDeletePlease feel to show and tell all you want. I love seeing all the things you've finished! The outfit is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI recently discovered your blog and I love it! I'm learning to sew clothing for my girls ages 2 1/2 and 1 year old, for economic and modesty reasons. I love your taste and ability to make clothes that don't have that frumpy "homeschooled" look, (I'm sure you know what I'm referring to . . .=P) and I love the great details like the ric-rac and such. So cute! I wish I could invite you over for an afternoon of tea and sewing, are you coming to northern California anytime soon?
ReplyDeleteShow and tell is just fine with me! Extremely cute show, thanks. I love the gathered pocket with ric rac detail, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteAnother cute one! Post what you want - it is your blog!
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest outfit, Emily is getting to be quite the model!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments on my Fabric Blog Giveaway, good luck,

j'adore vraiment...
ReplyDeleteJe me permets d'écrire en français comme cela ça fait plus "exotique" hihihi.
En tout cas, bravo pour vos créations, c'est vraiment superbe.
I don't know what's more gorgeous - your little girl or the outfit.
ReplyDeleteThank heavens for Ottobre magazine - I love 'em!
I LOVE show and tell...especially for little girl sewing (mainly because I'm in the midst of that myself).
ReplyDeleteOur little girls are about the same age (Rachel will be 4 in July) and I *think* around the same build. Do you mind sharing Emily's measurements or at least telling me if they are similar? Trying to decide if Ottobre will be easy enough for me to use for fitting her (she's very tall and skinny) without too much anguish over trying to figure out how much and where to lengthen. thanks!

Oh good grief, I forgot to include my Rachel's measurements. Back in November at age nearly 3-1/2 her chest was 19", center back length 11", waist 17.5", height 41"
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely outfit! <3 I've made this toffee tunic for my daughter when she was 6 months old but this looks so great on an older girl, that I'll have to make a bigger one for my daughter, too! :D
