My Baby is Sewing!

It seems like just yesterday when my last baby was born and I was sewing little outfits for her to wear.  Now here she is, all grown up and learning to sew for herself!  My sweet girl has been asking for months for me to teach her, and finally we took a day last week and started what I hope will be a lifelong love for sewing.

We started with a simple  project, a pillowcase.  Emily did a great job sewing the seams and I was delighted at her happiness in the finished pillowcase.

Since then, I've given Emily free run of my extra sewing machine, and she has made all kinds of little bags and filled them up with stuffed kittens and other what-nots.  She quickly mastered threading the machine and inserting the bobbin.  I think she's on her way!

Next week I'm going to help her sew a simple skirt or perhaps a tote bag.  Stay tuned.  :)

  5. So wonderful!

I'm going to need to get a sewing machine that I don't mind my daughter using on her own (I do have a few years before I have to worry about that), because I really don't want to set my daughter free on my nice machine!

  7. Awesome! It makes me happy to see a little girl so excited about sewing-- I have so many good memories of my mom teaching me when I was a kid! And I'd hope, that if I ever have a daughter, that she'd be interested in learning too.

  12. Wow! What a cute pillowcase and Emily did a great job. I have 2 daughters and neither one is interested in sewing. I think it's great you have daughters who enjoy it with you!

  13. Hello. My first comment didn't make it, so here we go. :-). I googled christian sewing and saw your blog. Then I remembered I use to subscribe to you before I accidentally lost my blog and had to recreate a new blog in 2010. So glad to see that your daughter is excited about sewing and wants to learn @ a young age! I learned when I was young: a combination of home ec and self taught by my dear Mother. :-). I've been trying to encourage a few Christian ladies over the years to carve out some time to sew by starting with small simple projects. Very nice pillow case. Pretty! And a blessing that your daughter asked YOU! Keep up the encouragement and good work! Now I'm going to add your blog to my blog list.:-)

  14. Sew adorable.....get it...lol. Anyway, I think it's awesome that such a young girl wants to learn to sew. I wasn't able to learn until I took HomeEc...which now I've learned isn't offered in schools anymore. Such a shame. Just think of the doors that have now been opened for her!
