Knitting for Babies

The baby shower was last night, so I can now share what I've been working on.  Two grandsons are coming and I'm sooooo excited.  The first baby is due in a few weeks, and the second is due a month later.  (I love having married daughters!  And I love, love, love grandbabies!)  As you may imagine, I have been knitting up a storm.  A few more projects are still secretly being kept under wraps until after the next baby shower, but I can show you these:

 EviePants All In One Booties
A fantastic pattern knit without seams and starting at the sole.

Another great pattern.  Thanks to this pattern, I now feel comfortable with wrap & turn short rows.

Rather monotonous to knit, but I like the finished blanket.  I do wish I had made this one slightly bigger.

Oh, and I can't forget the flannel receiving blankets with crocheted edging.  One can never have enough of these blankets.

Puppies: Only one round, (2 sc in next stitch, chain 1) repeat around.

Bicycles:  2 sc, ch 2, around

  2. These are some very special gifts, indeed! The gray yarn you used is such a pretty shade and I love the prints you used for the flannel receiving blankets.

  9. Ruth, your blankets are lovely. You inspired me to make a crochet-edge receiving blanket for my friend's new grand baby. I used the sharp edge crochet hook and have a couple questions. Your stitches are so even, do you just eye-ball the distance between each stitch or do you measure the 1/4 inch? Also, do you use two layers of flannel, wrong sides together? I used 1 layer of flannel and wasn't crazy with the results and my stitches were not as even as yours. Thanks in advance for your reply.

    1. Shelley,
Yes, I just eyeball the distance between each stitch. And if you were to measure, my stitches are not all exactly even either. I only use one layer of flannel, and the serged (or hemmed) edges are turned to the backside as I crochet along. The crocheting only goes through one layer of fabric encasing the turned edge. Does that make sense? I don't have your email address to reply directly, so I hope this helps.

  10. Thanks Ruth yes that does help. I'm going to try again and as they say "practice makes perfect"! Do you know a source for flannel that is equally vibrant on both sides rather than bright on one side (the right side) and dull on one side (the wrong side)? I see this type of flannel as 1 layer receiving blankets at Target, etc and was wondering where this comes from?

P.S. I'm not sure how to provide you my email address privately.....so I use the anonymous setting.

    1. I have often wondered the same thing about the flannel, but unfortunately I don't know where to find it. I usually buy my flannel at Joann's or Hancocks.

Thank you so much for your tutorial! Your blankets are beautiful and I'm having fun making my first blanket with this stitch.

  12. I use a number 8 steel (silver color) hook, and it just pushes through. It goes through easily---between the fibers, not tearing. If you try it, you'll see it it not difficult. :)
