Raise your hand if you've heard about OttLite. Anyone? If you are like me, you've heard lots of amazing things about these "natural sun lamps", but just haven't taken the jump to buy yourself one. So...you keep on sewing and crafting with poor lighting, not realizing what a huge difference having good quality light actually makes to your work and comfort.
OttLite lighting is expertly engineered with 508 technology to bring the quality of High Definition Natural Lighting™ indoors, providing the ideal balance of brightness and contrast.
The result is reduced glare, less eyestrain, and low heat. OttLite understands that color, detail and comfort are critical to doing the stuff you love.
OttLite helps you do what you love longer and offers a 100% delighted guarantee!
OttLite generously sent me the Tulip lamp to review and offer as a giveaway here. They have an entire line of craft lamps that are available on their website.
Here's photos of my workspace before and after.
(Note the little IKEA desk lamp I normally use. It always create such harsh shadows.) |
(Here the Tulip OttLite functions as a mini torchiere lamp, providing great ambient light for the whole area.) |
(I love how the lamp pulls up and out of the base to angle directly where I need the most light.) |
I personally didn't realize how much I was straining my eyes until I turned on my OttLite! I keep my laptop in my sewing room, and when I turn on the Tulip, I'm more comfortable and am able to work longer with less eye strain. I love how this particular lamp give ambiant light to the whole room, yet has a flexible neck for direct task lighting...this week it came in really handy as I was doing some machine quilting, and then hand sewing the binding on.
To enter to win your own Tulip OttLite, simply leave a comment telling me why or how you could use it.

I love my little Ott Lite and would love this one for my new sewing room. It doesn't have a lot of good lighting and I'm constantly straining to see at my machines. Thank you for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteMy sewing area is always dark, even with a light right next to my desk. Having this smaller Ott Lite would be a great way to brighten up things right at my sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome giveaway! I truly hope I win! :)
ReplyDeleteMy sewing area is in a corner of my dining room, and the lighting is never great, but it is especially poor in the evening. This would make my sewing infinitely easier!
Every time I sit down to handstitch a binding on a quilt, I have to rearrange my living room lamps to get enough light. This would be so handy! THANKS for the chance!

ReplyDeleteOoooo, dh & I have been talking about needing better task lighting by the recliner. Of course, if I win, I can't promise that I won't just keep it in the sewing room!
ReplyDeleteI think this would be so awesome for embroidering. I am usually on the sofa and the lighting isn't so great. This light would help with color selection as well as doing the actual stitches.
ReplyDeleteOh my do I need that lamp. My craft sewing room has paneling and the light isn't that good. It would surely help my eyes.

The older I get, the more tired my eyes are - this would really help - especially when stitching dark colors. Would love to win this one!
ReplyDeleteI would use it in my living room. It is a lovely room when the sun is out, but when it is cloudy it can be really dark in there, and it is where I sew.
ReplyDeletesewfearless at gmail dot com
I live in a teensy-weensy apartment in New York City that has no natural light- my windows look out on a brick wall. :) Thus, sewing in my living room with dim light is tough.
ReplyDeleteI love how the OttLite is so compact, so I could store it easily in my little apartment and take it out when I need it!
I have three Ott Lites! I have one at the sewing machine and one floor lamp type at my recliner for reading and hand sewing. I also have a small table top one I take the my sewing meetings and sewing retreats! I'd love to have this one to place by my serger! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI could use some natural light to sew by...my eyes are aging! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteohh wow cool - that would be awesome in my sewing room - especially as the light in my sewing machine needs replacing
ReplyDeleteHave liked their Fb page too
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it my sewing room is dark even with the overhead light on...
ReplyDeleteI have a great space to sew and a great view from a big picture window. However, that only works during the day. At night, I have an overhead ceiling fan and not a lot of success!
ReplyDeleteI "liked" on FB. :)
ReplyDeleteWow - I absolutely NEED this light! Our office/sewing area is a total cave, and the lighting is horribly inadequate. Honestly, I hated the idea of an ugly craft lamp. But the Ott light is really quite beautiful, and makes a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteI am now a fan of Ott Light on fb. (Amy E. Willa)
ReplyDeleteI would use it on my sewing table, but I could also use it while making flower bouquets in the barn at night.
ReplyDeleteGosh, that's amazing! I would love a lamp like that for my sewing area.
ReplyDeleteI would love a lamp like that because my sewing/crafting is all done in my basement. My winter sewing sessions would be much improved!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have an Ottlite but I never want to spend my $ on one. I'd rather buy fabric :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a difference! I have often wondered if these really make a difference, and your pics show they do! My sewing space in in the downstairs corner room of our house and it isn't well lit, this would be so helpful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
i would use this when i am scrapbooking==it looks like just what i need!
ReplyDeleteI would love the Ott Lite. For lack of other space, I end up sewing on my kitchen table after dinner and when the baby is in bed. Because it is our eating space, it only has an overhead lamp. The Ott Lite would be great and easy to whip out and use on the table and provide all the light I need for my projects!

ReplyDeleteI would put this on my sewing desk. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win this. I would use it in the same way you have, right next to my sewing machine.
ReplyDeletesewingwithtrudy at yahoo dot com
My sewing room is dark and has no light except for a lamp stuck in the far corner from my sewing machine. Because of that, I typically don't sew once it gets dark. The tulip lamp looks like it would be perfect for my sewing room as it's not big and bulky (would fit well on my sewing table)and the ability to use the lamp for task sewing or more likely ripping out in my case!
ReplyDeleteTulips are my favorite flower and the lamp is so lovely
ReplyDeleteOOOOOH! I want to win this! My house is so dark. Sometimes I sew with every light on and it is still too dark. Thank you for the chance.
ReplyDeleteAnd I liked them on Facebook too!

Thank you!!
My current sewing space is in our bedroom and we only have small overhead lights and with aging eyes it just isn't fun to sew in there a lot of the time. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd be thrilled to win this OttLite!
I enjoy sewing and scrapbooking. My main crafting space is my dining room table and the lighting isn't that great. Winning this light would certainly make my eyes happy!
ReplyDeleteI would use it on my sewing table!
ReplyDeleteThere is never enough light during the late afternoons and evenings.
Thank you for offering the give away!
Debra
Wow, my sewing room would be so much more comfortable with this new light design. Ott light is so pure and this new shape is so practical.
ReplyDeleteI "liked" it on FB!
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of cross stitching, and I have an OttLite in my great room that I use in conjunction with an Ott light bulb in my floor lamp. I would love to have another one in my bedroom, since I do a lot of stitching up there, too.
ReplyDeleteI "liked" OttLite on Facebook, plus I wrote a quick blog post about this giveaway, which will automatically be posted to Facebook. http://ginnyscrafts.blogspot.com/2011/08/ottlite-giveaway.html
Thanks for the opportunity to enter this drawing!
I would trully love to have an Ott Lite to have beside my sewing machine. My room is not well lit and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, making it a strain on my eyes. Thank you very much for this opportunity.

I would love to use the Ott Lite as a bedside lamp. I love reading in bed, but my little lamp is so dull and harsh. :-) Awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would use it in my sewing room. I've been needing a good light for a while :)

Oooh, I would love an Ott Lite! I plan on redoing my sewing room in the next few months and an Ott Lite is definitely in the plans. The Tulip lamp is really cute!
ReplyDeleteI would use it in my sewing area, where I am going half blind and recently had to get reading glasses! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI liked Ott Lite on Facebook
ReplyDeleteI shared this on my handmade dress haven page on facebook.
ReplyDeleteThis would definitely go in my sewing room - that is until my husband steals it!

I would love one of these! I would move it between my sewing machine and my laptop because I spend far too long at both of them which makes my eyes hurt a lot!
ReplyDeleteLiked them on facebook :)
ReplyDeleteI have almost the exact same set up with my little desk lamp casting a tiny bit of light on my sewing area and hurting my poor little peepers...could do with an ottlite!
ReplyDeleteI like them on facebook too

I do handsewing at home for work and this would be great as our lighting is awful! Assuming of course that this could be sent to NZ
ReplyDeleteI would love lighting like that when I sew. If good light means more sewing, then sign me up!
ReplyDeletePosted this giveaway on my blog. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWow, I knew you could get daylight lamps, but hadn't realised you coudl get STYLISH ones, LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy crafting space is in my loft, with only one small loftlight, so I'm really dependant upon artificial lighting; an OTT light would literally transform the space and allow me to work into the evenings.
I sew in the basement with only an overhead light. I would love to have more lighting!
ReplyDeleteI sew by a window but would love this lamp for sewing at night!
ReplyDeleteI do not own one yet but an OttLite has been on my wish list for awhile. I love the design of the little tulip lamp you have shown.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this, I don't have a dedicated sewing room and our house faces the wrong way for natural light so when I do get a chance to sew its normally at the kitchen table and I've got every light on in the kitchen I can turn on!!!

What a great giveaway! My local sewing studio has one of these lights and I love it, but haven't been able to justify spending the money on myself. :-) Among other things, they are so great for hand-stitching! Thanks for sharing your review, and for giving us the opportunity to win one!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have this Ott Lite. It's so stylish and useful! I've been coveting my mom's and best friend's ott lites for years, but have never sprung for one myself. I would love to win this!
ReplyDeleteI would use it in my bedroom as a reading light and also for a light for sewing.
ReplyDeletehisprincess886 at yahoo dot com
My eyes are getting older- light, magnification, even having to take a break from sewing due to eye fatique- never had to do this before and slows down the sewing speed. I have moved, removed, and had to kick a kid out of bedroom just so I could have light. Please, I need this light!

ReplyDeleteI have always wanted an Ott light. My sewing room as now windows in it so I have no natural lighting. I would totally come in extra handy for me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am just remodeling my sewing room and NEED a new light. I use an old sewing machine that keeps burning its bulb :( So, I would use it to light what I sew! Thanks so much for offering!
ReplyDeleteMy craft room is actually half my living room, and my living room has no built-in lighting. Help!
ReplyDeletecorvus.melloriATgmailDOTcom
Posted your give away on my blog! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would use the Ott Lite beside my sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great lamp! It would be a nice addition to my sewing table.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little light! I would use this light so that I could sew in the evening. I am currently using a table lamp and when I work on big projects, I don't have enough room to work without worrying about knocking over the lamp! Thanks for reviewing these and demonstrating the difference that they make in the lighting of your sewing area!
ReplyDeleteSounds neat! Count me in :)
ReplyDeleteI put a post on my blog too: http://blessedokie.blogspot.com/2011/08/giveaway-for-ottlite.html
ReplyDeleteDefinitely in my sewing room; also for evening hand sewing.... Wow! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm now a fan on Facebook also!
ReplyDeleteI'd love this little lamp in my dark basement sewing room! I've been using a little desk lamp that leaves shadows and gets soooo hot.
ReplyDeleteMy sewing room could use one of these... since I generally sew at night! No matter how much light I have on, another one is useful!

ReplyDeleteYour blog is the first time I have seen this light. It looks wonderful and I would love to have one. Thank you for sharing all the wonderful ideas and tutorials on your blog.
ReplyDeleteI live in a neighborhood called Park Forest, everyone who lives here calls it "Dark Forest." Lots of trees, not a lot of light, even at high noon!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that no matter what I try, I need more direct lighting. I would love to have the new OTT light. I have two of the older floor model OTT lights.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity! My sewing area does not have any light, so I can appreciate any illumination I can get.
ReplyDeleteRose in SV
right by my sewing machine where I sew quilts and clothes. Would love to have it.
ReplyDeleteWould love this lamp for sewing, using iPad and reading. Never have seen them before
ReplyDeleteI have an older ott-lite that I "inherited" from a friend when she moved away, but it is a floor lamp, so it got put by the sofa where I sometimes knit and it can't really be moved around. The little one would be great for moving around with my sewing machine, which doesn't have a permanent home!
ReplyDeleteIt is so cute, or should I say so chic. I have a sewing room I have been working on in my basement. Needless to say the lighting is less that perfect. What a fun addition that light would be to my space.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have this light. The lighting in the room I sew is not good at all and I have to rely on the light on the machine only. I have heard that this light is also good for knitting which requires good light when working with dark colors. What a wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy floor lamp is wobbly and it's hard to direct the light where I need it. The desktop Ott Lite would be a big improvement.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to use one of these to help with my sewing, knitting and other crafting! I would definitely be able to use it!
ReplyDeleteIf I won this I would immediately give it to my best friend and sister-in-law fit her tiny dark basement closet she calls her art room. I know she needs it. Desperately.
ReplyDeleteI NEED this so badly the house we are in has NO light fixtures all we have are lamps!!! So I have a desk lamp I use and it is so bad :(
ReplyDeleteHow would I use the light? In February and March I finally had cataract surgery, and I now can see well enough (!!!) to do handwork again, but the light would help me to embroider or hand sew hexagons in the evenings.
ReplyDeleteHow would I use the light? In February and March I finally had cataract surgery, and I now can see well enough (!!!) to do handwork again, but the light would help me to embroider or hand sew hexagons in the evenings.
ReplyDeleteI have an Ott lite that I use right by my sewing machine but would love to have the little tulip lamp to use in the family room so that I could embroider while sitting on the sofa watching a movie with my hubby!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like a great little light! I had to move my sewing machine into our bedroom and there is no light near it so I strain away on my eyes for every project. Even if I don't get this I will have to look for it! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteCaptain Momma
Big difference. That was a great visual...now I want one even more than before! Thanks for the giveaway. Some lucky winner will be very lucky no matter what their craft, or even if they "just" need it for reading. I know it would be awesome for my paper crafting or my husband's decoy carving and painting.
ReplyDeleteAs a newlywed, I'm still setting up my sewing room. I need some good light!
ReplyDeleteMy family and I have just finished our new sewing room complete with a fancy quote written on the table.our sewing table desperately needs a good light. thank you so much for this chance to win a cool light like this.
ReplyDeleteI've just started using my new Bernina 330! And the little Ott Lite would help me to see my stitches better than my overhead light is doing now. Pick me! And thanks for the blog. It's fun to know others stitching with glee like me.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this light. I'm getting ready to turn my oldest daughter's room into a sewing room & get back to doing what I love to do!
ReplyDeleteI have to clear off the dining table and set up sewing there late at night after baby goes to bed. Such horrible overhead lighting and shadows!
ReplyDeleteIt's bad when you think more about not being able to see well rather than caring about wrinkles. That must mean I am getting really old......maybe an OttLite will brighten my day....
ReplyDeleteI like OttLite on Facebook!
ReplyDeleteI would use this wonderful light in my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteWow - this would be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI can think of so many uses for this adorable little lamp! We are creating a sewing area in our attic and it would be a lovely addition. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteI would use it in my newly remodeled basement sewing/family room!
ReplyDeleteSewing and knitting with dark fabrics and yarn is difficult. An Ott Lite would certainly help with the eye strain.
ReplyDeleteooooh!! This looks fantastic...I would use it in the corner of my dark, shadowy living room and then I'd stop squinting!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this Ottlite because I sew on my diningroom table and the only fixture in the room is an overhead fixture The room has high ceilings so there's lot of shadows and the only other light is the one on my machine, so I try to sew during the day when the light is better.
I love your blog and have been lurking for a while. Thanks for a chance at this wonderful give-away.
Ii'm very happy to post your give-away on my blog too.
Gail :)
I have an OTT light for my office. One by my sewing machine just makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI like OTT lite one Facebook.
ReplyDeleteEye strain is my problem. I didn't realize until I read your post that an Ott Lite might help me avoid that. I'd love to try this little one! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this Ott Lite! I have just started hand applique and this lite would be great for that.
ReplyDeleteI love the shape of this lamp. My sewing space is like Harry Potter's room: it's a small space under the stairs...the basement stairs. This small Ott Lite would be perfect to brighten that little spot and it wouldn't take up much needed space. Thanks for offering this fab prize!
ReplyDeleteMy sewing room has only overhead lights. I put a lamp on my cutting table, but that is not working great. Would so love an Ott Lite.
ReplyDeleteOh my! I've been wanting an OttLite for quite some time, but haven't been able to bring myself to spend the money LOL!
ReplyDeleteOne would come in extremely handy since lighting in my home is HORRIBLE, and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. If I don't have sufficient light, even with my glasses, I can feel my eyes getting very strained.
Thanks for the opportunity to participate!
I could really use one of those lamps! I have two lamps in my sewing/living room (sans t.v.), one a side table lamp that sits off to my right so I often times step in front of my light. The other is a ceiling light that is fluorescent and this one is off to my left...you see a trend here. A lamp right on my sewing table would help immensely! Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWould love an Ott light! Just last night I was finishing an alteration on my daughter's school jumper and my had my chair crammed next to a fairly dim lamp. Would love to be able to sew at night and be able to SEE!
ReplyDeleteI am currently using a cheap floor lamp that has to be taped together. Seriously! It would be wonderful to have decent lighting by my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this lamp. I might learn what kind of sewer I really am!
ReplyDeleteI find that as I get older I need more light for sewing too.
ReplyDeleteI lost my studio space to a fire and am now working out of my family room. I could so use new lighting, and have always wanted to try the Ott Lites. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteLike the facebook page. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI moved my sewing room to a dark corner of the bedroom (mice in the basement!). I would love to add this to the table.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I need in my sewing room.....It is so dark in there and no space for a big light.....Thanks for sharing....
ReplyDeleteMy new sewing/craft room does not have good lighting. The OttLite would work great!
ReplyDeleteI've been using one of the "mood" lights because I suffer the blues in the winter. But the lamp is too boxy, and leaves little space on my bedside table. This OttLite would be PERFECT! I also just began learning how to sew, so an OttLite needs to go next to my sewing machine. Thank you so much for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference the Ott Lite made! Would love to use it to help me see while sewing and knitting away! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI would love this little Tulip Ottlite for my sewing room. I just painted it in a sunny yellow hoping for better light in there. I have 1 window in the room & still can't see my sewing machine & serger as well as I should. Hope I win but if not congrats to the winner!
