Today is my birthday! Following Trudy's example, I am giving a birthday gift to one randomly chosen reader of Sew Chic. Your gift is a set of pattern weights, made by me.
The weights are covered in brown fabric from Moda designer Sandy Gervais. You will receive a set of two large and two medium sized weights. The large weights are 4.5" in diameter and bigger than the metal washers you will find in your typical hardware store. The medium weights are 3.5" in diameter.
To win this set of weights, leave a comment on this post telling me if you use pattern weights when sewing or if you use pins. Or tell me what your favorite sewing notion is. For an extra entry, become a follower of Sew Chic and leave another comment to that effect. I'll close this giveaway next week, sometime between April 10-12, and I'll announce the winner then. Because these weights are heavy, I can only ship to addresses in the United States.

What beautiful weights - I'm intrigued. Yes I use weights - random ones, I'm afraid - like a heavy duty stapler I keep on my sewing table (does a great job, nice non-skid bottom), you get the picture. Would love to be included in your draw, with thanks!

I use weights - very unpretty, non-fabric wrapped washers.
ReplyDeleteI use weights most of the time and pins once in a while. Mine are washers from the hardware store...plain, boring ol' washers. They do make a nice clinking sound when stacking them back up!
ReplyDeleteThese do look nice! I have always used pins, I've never really tried using weights. I usually cut fabric on my wood floor (if I can avoid dog-bunnies, lol), so I guess these would do fine.

ReplyDeleteHi Ruth. You betcha' I use weights. I only have a couple, tho. I have made up a lot of patterns on brown paper...especially purses and bags. I found that the weights work wonders. So, I need some for my regular patterns. I tried to make some but they did not turn out so great.

ReplyDeleteI have been secretly following your blog for sometime. It was the first time I had ever heard of pattern weights. That very day I went out to Home Depot to buy the largest I could find and try it out. OH MY GOSH! It was the most enlightening thing!! To never have to pin again to cut a pattern? It has saved me hours and hours of work! I tried finding those 4" weights and it's impossible! So if I could win these, I would be ecstatic! Thanks for entertaining me with your blog.

Happy Birthday! I'm already a faithgul follower. It just so happens that I do use weights--but I use food cans. So it would be nice to have a more "classy" style of weight. My favorite notion is a seam gauge!

I just discovered your blog site today and got really excited. I absolutely use weights and love using them instead of pins...but I must say, when I saw yours, they are fabulous!!!!! The one tool I love is my rotary cutter by Gingher and the button hole guide ruler by using this baby, your buttonholes are always spaced precisely.

i only started recently using weights (in no small part to your regular mention of them). canned tomatos may work fine, but i've convinced myself that pretty weights will keep any monotony out of cutting fabric~

I use both. Growing up o always used weights- my moms- which were round and had little pins on the bottom. Then I moved, and she moved, and neither or us have since found such great weights. I use both pins and weights--yours are really cool. I'd love to own some. It's really difficult to choose my favorite sewing tool. Besides my Bernina, I'd probably say my little gingher scissors is (are?) about my most used tool. I use them all the time at the machine and also when handstitching.
